All The Day Holiday - (2009) All The Things We've Grown to Love

sound: Indie/Alternative/Chill Sauce
length: 12 songs, 49.8 minutes
myspace
1. Autumn
2. Real Time
3. 2000 Winters
4. Greener
5. La Voyage
6. Atmosphere
7. Cities
8. The Things We've Grown To Love
9. Flowers and Fireworks
10. Cheers (You Still Love Me)
11. Mountains
12. Invisible

So imagine Explosions in the Sky were a bit more talented and had a really chill sounding vocalist, you would have All the Day Holiday. I have often gone back and listened to their first EP, We'll be Walking on Air and thought about putting it up on here. However, with that album i normally get hung up on how fucking awesome the song FingerPrints is cause it's got this bad ass guitar intro. So when this album came out i was thinking maybe i would find another jem. See Real Time which has some monster drums, you will be replaying this one i promise. Just a nice catchy, alternative rock feel, on top of being really decent guys. Check em out.

4. Schizophrenia
5. Shake My Hand
6. Take Me Home
7. Texas Tea

Allow me to introduce you to the Jakes an Indie band from my home state California. The Jakes meet my friend musically inclined and educated reader, musically inclined educated reader, meet the very sweet-hearted, sincere, and talented band the Jakes. Great, now that we're all friends let me tell you this very short album is an absolute jem. It's everything Maroon 5 wanted to be, with all the nostalgic pop cred Vampire Weekend can muster. Cough Syrup is a sweet pick me up on a sad day "life's to short to even care at all" while Take me Home is a profound and simple acoustic with beautiful honest lyrics. Please friends, enjoy.

10. I Came As Dust (I Left As Dust)
11. The Spine Collection
12. Devil Walk, God Walk (Heaven Walk, Hell Walk)

Oceana is a Florida band that after putting out their first record The Tide, parted ways with their front man and got Brennan Talbee. First i will start with: despite what other people keep trying to tell me is my opinion, i thought The Tide was meh. Honestly i was more excited about the Creations demo then that whole album tbf. In my opinion this record is a surprise, Brennan is a refreshing change of pace. Being able to be understand lyrics while singing and screaming isn't a bad thing kids. Besides, they still have a fucking kick ass drummer and the guitar riffs will still cut your eardrums to pieces.

City of Ships - (2008) Live Free or Dont EP

sound: Rock/Post-Hardcore/Screamo
length: 5 songs, 21.35 minutes
myspace
1. Twenty Twenty
2. Hold Tight
3. Evidence/Based Medicine
4. Too Late To Pray
5. Time Flies

Virginia band sporting some heavy melodic guitar riffs and gravely screams crawling towards a throaty chorus. WARNING: this record is not happy bunnies and smiling sunsets. Yet for all the happiness seeping of Hold Tight and the metal-mongering of Evidence/Based Medicine there is the beauty of the breakdown in Too Late to Pray. For fans of Thrice and Hopesfall faithfuls, here is your new favorite band.

* since this went down, i threw in their self titled too, enjoy :)
