Minus the Bear - (2005) Menos El Oso

sound: Indie/Chill Sauce
length: 11 songs, 44.7 minutes

1. "The Game Needed Me" – 3:15
2. "Memphis & 53rd" – 3:40
3. "Drilling" – 5:03

9. "Fulfill the Dream" – 3:23
10. "The Pig War" – 4:38
11. "This Ain´t a Surfin´ Movie" – 4:53

In the year 2005, I found myself sitting on my hands for lack of MTB when they finally dropped this precious dime of a record from nearby Seattle. Saw them live right after, blew my fucking mind. While I still maintain Planet of Ice is their best press to date, this album is a very close second. Opening with the fresh and stylistic The Game Needed Me, MTB's god of a guitarist Dave Knudson stamps and taps his way into the hearts, minds, and stereo's of infamy. Getting ahead of myself...probably, but in Menos El Oso you get crowd movers like Drilling and the Fix, followed by some Serious chill sauce like Pig War and This ain't a Surfin Movie. What more can a girl ask for? This record is without a dud in my opinion, and was a gracious break from the long drought of Highly Refined Pirates.

If I say Math-Rock in reference to this band, I'm gonna have 30 people up my ass about how everything this band did someone else did already (At the Drive In, The Mars Volta). And to those people i would like to say go ahead and fuck yourself. I don't give one good god damn because yes, these guys play some melodic fast guitar riffs that tear peoples eyes out and sure they have a vocalist who's not afraid to use every sound found in the human thorax. But I'm pretty sure ATDI, and TMV didn't drop a fucking patent on the ability to make great music so this band is in the clear. All that name calling aside, some serious grandiose in your face musicianship with this band and a drummer that flat out rapes face. Just try Delay the Fiasco on for size, one bad ass song. The AlbumWe Impend is a gem of it's own.

First and foremost if you can't handle screaming don't even bother clicking on this. That being said for the select readers who can, Fear Before in my opinion is a band that grows on you with time. I've had about 4 years with this album, and i fucking love it. Excellent for when you've had one of those days when you just want to fucking rape and murder the shit out of people.
Anyway, I normally would advise against listening to a new album out of intended order but go ahead and listen to Sarah Goldfarb, or On the Brightside cus they're the pillars of FBTMF's humble Denver beginnings.

sound: Punk/Screamo/Post Hardcore
length: 6 albums, **13 songs, 54.13 minutes

I'm going to preface this by saying I listened to No Sir, Nihilism in hs and loved it to death. Several songs stand the test of time like So Selfish It's Funny, Dead by Dawn, and Mouth like a Magazine. However, besides that album, idk what Showbread sounded like later on. Although i will say i own Life, Kisses, and Other Wasted Efforts and think it's alright too. My fond memories of Showbread remembers them as loud, energetic, and a youthful cross between singing and Alot of fucking screaming. Honestly, re-listening to these albums reminded me of a time when skateboarding, and playing way too god damned loud in someone's garage was a daily routine. So to who ever requested this, cheers.

So a few weeks ago I said if you didn't know this band/album by name you needed to walk yourself back to Music Knowledge 101 immediately, and i stand by that. If you don't know this album it's because you have unfortunate taste in music, or someone doesn't love you enough to steer you down the holy and righteous path.
Very strong progressive rock band that folded sometime around 2001, and became Sparta and the Mars Volta. Relationship Of Command was a divulge into electronics that caught some short-lived mainstream attention. First three songs on this album, best songs in ATDI history in my honest opinion. I will say, you might not listen to this album every day but you should appreciate the musicianship, if you have such an ear. With this album listened to:
Now, we accept you one of us.

John Sars is not a country singer from Poland.
John Sars is what the press would call a rock band.

I have a serious crush on Matt their guitarist, mostly cus he swings his guitar over his head. And their drummer cus he plays with a hardcore kit, made up of about 6 different kits. RE UP : Able Baker Fox - (2008) Voices

So you might be saying, hey this is already on here and your right, it fucking is. But i just happened across some FUCKING MORONS at allmusic who said this about Voices
Unfortunately, however, Voices is a completely uninspired, standard-issue emo record, with 11 songs that between them hit every cliché in the style, most of them more than once. There is absolutely nothing new or unique about Voices

You can read the whole goddamn thing for yourself here.

Firstly, if you agree with this statement you are FUCKING IDIOT DIAF. I can't even make myself listen to a Small Brown Bike album, and i certainly wasn't a fan before this album. Also every song on this album is pure gold, allmusic isn't even intelligent enough to be SHAT ON BY ABLE BAKER FOX!

If you think I'm blowing smoke up your ass here are 5 links to people who aren't SIDEWAYS MUSICAL TOILET BOWLS who agree with me. Also read the comments on these too, peops just like yourself who aren't DICKHEADS.

Finally, here's a link to the album in this blog so if you're still undecided you can download it and hear for yourself. People are entitled to their opinions, but don't tell me i can't like something because I'm "not already a fan."
Also i would argue that so called "uninspired" musicians have more talent in their left pancreas than any fat piece of shit at allmusic could dream up on GarageBand any fucking day of the week.

08. Shameless ( 3:35)
09. February Sins ( 3:22)
10. The Walls Have Ears ( 4:58)

This is by far the most annoying album that i enjoy. Because everytime i listen to it, i think it's way too Pop sounding for my taste. However, for having a girl drummer and being 1/3 from Walnut Creek, Ca. Their not that bad, at all.

9. "Things Aren't So Beautiful Now (Part I)" – 2:32
10. "Things Aren't So Beautiful Now (Part II)" – 3:23

So even though their second album is a steaming pile of sell-out Pop bullshit, this album is just fine. This album showcases their drummer who by far is the most talented musician in this band. Saw these guys live once before their new album came out, they kicked ass. However, if your into the new sound of Funeral For a Friend or bands like Ivoryline, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus then by all means I'm sure you'll love their newer shit too.

11. "Tommy" – 4:27
12. "Horse Warming Party" – 3:44
13. "Guns.Guns...Guns" – 8:30

Band from Alaska, normally not an good start to a post. However, Portugal. the Man despite having a shitty ass third album had it right the first time with this one. It's labeled funk, cus their format isn't traditional, but I'm sure there isn't a person on the earth who doesn't find AKA M80 The Wolf plugworthy.

01. Alabama
02. You're Right
03. Home Is Right Out Your Window
04. A Fox In The Garden
05. Pacing The Cage

Nice guys from Nashville Tennessee(yes i am looking at you) very chill, excellent musicality. Exceptionally subtle with it's ability to rumble around in your head for days. Personally i hated the song Alabama for ages, so if you hear that song and second guess me go ahead and skip to You're Right. Alabama will grow on you later.

I don't really want to get in the habit of posting EP's, but this one is superb. For Minus the Bear fans, this is like i said before Minus the Bear moving without direction. However in these four songs it comes together so beautifully. It's like a 27 minute addition to Menos El Oso.

I stumbled over this record about two days ago, it's been on repeat ever since. Their sound is really unique, and damn catchy. It's like a weird cross of Deloused in the Comatorium, Catch For Us the Foxes, and Relationship of Command. Also if you don't know those albums by name, you should probably fucking kill yourself, cus you've been listening to absolute shit for 5 years.
