13. "Break the Sky" - 3:19

To the kids who like Indie and have been crawling up my ass lately with emails cause the shit on the site has been loud as of late... don't worry, i still love you guys too.
Somewhere in a weird cross between the sweet hum of the Blues, Delta Spirit's Folk, and the Shins version of Indie-meets-Pop, lies this album. You have your fan favorites like The Boys are to Refined and Not Your Concern, catchy and finger snappy to be sure. And then, there's an absolute gem in the melancholy and dissonant piano keys of Hurricane. Tuneful, Foot tapping, and all the fuckin jazz, just a nice light-hearted record for your Spring rotations.

9. Capover
*10. Gates (itunes bonus track)

Going to stop being lazy and give this an actual review. As i began with last time this record certainly has an interesting consistency. Some where between absolute depression, and a tiresome fist fight lies this bold push by As Cities Burn. Lyrically it's perceptive, the song Made to Pretty for example "We don't want a God we don't see in ourselves don't see we're in need /I think we were made too pretty/We're caught up in a stare and we can't break." I still think Come Now Sleep is a great record, but am willing to admit this is a substantial leap in the right direction for a band i had completely written off. Cheers.

Moneen - (2006) The Red Tree

1. Don't Ever Tell Locke What He Can't Do 2:57
2. If Tragedy's Appealing, Then Disaster's An Addiction 3:19
3. Bleed And Blister (Version 3) 3:27
4. The Day No One Needed To Know 6:04
5. This Is All Bigger Than Me 3:05
6. The Frightening Reality Of The Fact That We Will All Have To Grow Up And Settle Down One Day 3:56
7. The Politics Of Living And The Shame In Dying 3:36
8. The East Has Stolen What The West May Want 3:35
9. Seasons Fade... Fevers Rage... It's A Slow Decay 3:46
10. There Are A Million Reasons For Why This May Not Work... And Just One Good One For Why It Will 5:38
11. The Song I Swore To Never Sing 3:22

As any good Alexisonfire fan i of course had to chck out Moneen cus the guys have a serious hard on for each other. It might have something to do with being from Canada, or something to do with their comparable dueling guitar styles. However don't go into this record expecting the heavy screaming of George Petitt, these guys are more about melody and harmony. Borrowing the fast pace drumming style of Jordan Hastings, this record explodes right out the gate with Don't Ever Tell Locke. Best fucking Moneen record hands down, check it out.

Closure in Moscow - (2008) The Penance, The Patience

sound: Punk Rock/Progressive
length: 6 songs, 25.5 minutes

1. We Want Guarantees (3:58)
2. Dulcinea (4:37)
3. Breathing Underwater (3:15)
4. Here's To Entropy (3:01)
5. Ofelia... Ofelia (4:39)
6. Jewels For Eyes (6:04)

If you enjoyed Bounce, Energy, Hear Me Out your guaranteed to like this record. Drums are reminiscent of For the Mathematics, vocals something more like Anthony Green. Truthfully, We Want Guarantees is still this records biggest pull, look out for Breathing Underwater as well terribly catchy. Some form of a new record is set to release soon as well, if it's any good it will probably end up on here too.

Serious Plug v1.0: Daytrotter.com

So sorry for the absence but i just haven't heard anything recently worth talking for more then two seconds about. Mostly just a bunch of mediocre albums lately, might write about new Silversun Pickups tomorrow. So if you are bored and looking for new jams i suggest going here to Daytrotter. Try looking up your favorite band, who knows they might have like nine fucking sessions like Delta Spirit. Here's a couple i highly recommend:

Minus the Bear
this is my favorite one besides the Fleet Foxes. Honestly in my opinion this is almost better then the acoustic record they put out this past year.

Fleet Foxes
I passed up an opportunity to see these guys this past summer and i truly regret it. They really are just fucking fantastic sounding, and this is a nice little tease of how great their live show is. Which from what i heard, was fucking out of control.

Javelins
I had been hanging on to Heavy Meadows for ages thinking i would get around to liking it. Listened to it a few times, didn't hear anything spectacular. Then i stumbled across this, and it is now probably my third favorite session.

Colour Revolt
In my opinion this a fucking gem. If you dig the Colour Revolt Album even slightly then you Have to own this collection of songs. Plus they play Naked and Red differently and it's absolutely haunting. I only wish it had See It, but one can only dream they have another session.

Lady Radiator - (2007) Bounce, Energy, Hear Me Out

sound: Punk Rock/Progressive
length: 10 songs, 35.9 minutes
myspace
1. Kids For Sale (3:59)
2. Her Snowfall Was A Line Of Cocaine (4:26)
3. Ready Explode (3:55)
4. Box Turtle, Magnificent Isn't She (5:14)
5. Elude (3:13)
6. Ships Are For Sailing Not For Leaving (2:34)
7. Scientist, The Spaceship (3:18)
8. Date: 4 Years Old (1:43)
9. For Those Who Can Spare Some Change Thank You (3:37)
10. Wayne Brady Don't Hold Me Back (3:55)

This record is damn explosive. The First half is fucking solid. Comes out swinging with Kids for Sale right from the gate. Anthem for anybody who knows some seriously whorish ladies "here's a story about/ how she fucked her way through the crowd" damn catchy imo. Lotta cursin' lotta wailin' guitars lotta snare hits and quick pick ups. Every song follows suit minus the very random Ships Are for Sailing. Although i will say while i think a random acoustic sing along that doesn't fit in with the rest of the record is a fucking dud, my friend thinks it's the best song on the thing. Which just goes to prove he's a god damn moron, and I know music better....but give em a listen.

Vanna - (2009) A New Hope

sound: Punk Rock/Screamo
length: 12 songs, 42.2 minutes

1. Let's Have An Earthquake 1:22
2. Into Hell's Mouth We March 3:01
3. The Same Graceful Wind 3:55

6. Safe to Say 4:01
7. We Are Nameless 3:52
8. Sleepwalker 3:46
9. Where We Are Now 4:07
10. Ten Arms 4:02
11. Life and Limb 3:55
12. The Sun Sets Here 3:55

Firstly, hadn't ever heard of Vanna but i was told sounded like recent SKSK so i thought i would give it a whirl. In that it's outrageously catchy i would concur, but beyond that i would disagree. In my opinion this record has a totally different vibe, and this band has a very distinct sound all their own. At first listen their more a cross between all that's great about Underøath's vocals, SevenStoryFall's drums, and SKSK dueling guitars. For all the Silverstein fans who were disappointed with A Ship Wreck in the Sand download this shit.

Eulogies - (2009) Here Today

sound: Indie/Chill Sauce
length: 11 songs, 37 minutes
myspace
1. Day to Day
2. Eyes on the Prize
3. Bad Connection
4. Two Can Play
5. How to Be Alone
6. This Fine Progression
7. Out of Character
8. A Dark Place
9. Goodbye
10. The Fight (I've Come to Like)
11. Stranger Calliope
12. Is There Anyone Here?

My first impression was this album was pretty boring but after a couple more listen's i realized i was a fucking moron. At first glance this seems to be your run of the mill catchy but chill album, but i think to say that is a lazy assessment. Eulogies are very clever at vocal progression, and creating light-hearted beats and simplified lyrics that sort of resonate in the soul. Granted they aren't doing anything Pedro the Lion didn't already but it's still a very sweet, heartfelt record. Check it out.
