I Had Plans [2009] Demo CDR

sound: Progressive/Screamo
myspace

Missing the wandering guitar riffs, and ear splitting melodies of Dave Knudson in Botch? Try these kids on for size. I know absolutely nothing about this band except their from Portugal [don't worry their vocals are in English, if that kind of thing puts you off] they are [or were] signed to Escucha! Records which also boasts some sweet fucking bands like Suis La Luine and Kidcrash, and they are talented. If the track Animal Man is any indicator of what these guys can do, i would love to see something of theirs on vinyl. This super short demo is the shit, so check it out.

sounds like: Tera Melos, The Fall of Troy, Since By Man, Kidcrash

Things that Disappointed in 2009 pt. IV

Punk/Screamo:

The Used - Artwork
Look i was 14 once, i still have a couple the Used t-shirts, so when they put out a record i normally listen to it at least. The last one Lies for the Liars was ok. This is more like an entire record of songs that are bids to be in future Transformers movies. And no, that is not a compliment. Too much pop, i know i keep saying that, but i'm not really fond of popular music, deal with it.

Screamo/Hardcore:

Burden of a Day - OneOneThousand
What can i say, i like Blessed Be Our Ever After in spite of myself. And then they just  went and dropped the fucking ball with this record. Some songs are tolerable but as a whole, i'm just not that impressed.

Screamo/Progressive:

The Fall of Troy - In the Unlikely Event
I love this band, this record is certainly worth listening to if you're a TFOT fan. It's a little more chord progression a little less of those crazy technical guitar lines, and wild finger taps that i love.  And im not gonna lie, i don't have a giant fucking interest in listening to Thomas sing, i think he sounds better screaming. I personally will stick to their S/T and Doppleganger.

Hot Cross - (2007) Risk Revival

sound: Screamo/Progressive
length: 13 songs, 43.48 minutes
myspace
1. Exits and Trails
2. Turncoat Revolution
3. Resent Resist Rebuild
4. Fire the Foundations
5. Cardiac Silence
6. Kill the Name
7. Silence is Failure
8. Fatefully
9. Existence
10. Rejoinder
11. Finance Fuels the Sickness at Heart
12. Blame Truth
13. Scrape Wisdom

I'm actually really surprised i haven't posted this ages ago. Here a screamo band certainly worthy of a little praise. Prepare yourself for dueling guitars, intricate riffs, and fast steady drumbeats. Not to mention the vocalist of defunct Saetia. I will just say from the first time i heard Turncoat Revolution ages ago i was pretty much hooked on this fucking band. I dont have a giant interest in vinyl, however when i saw this on vinyl i didn't even hesitate to purchase it. I encourage you to do the same, cus in case you didn't notice the album art for this record is fucking sick. Seriously plug worthy, if you've been skating on the edges of clicking anything with the label "screamo" on this page, i insist this be the one you try. Cheers.

sounds like: Circus Circus, the Fall of Troy, Since by Man

La Dispute - (2008) Somewhere At The Bottom Of The River Between Vega And Altair

1. Such Small Hands
2. Said the King to the River
3. New Storms for Older Lovers

9. Andria
10. Then Again, Maybe You Were Right
11. Sad Prayers For Guilty Bodies
12. The Last Lost Continent
13. Nobody, Not Even the Rain

I had the album Vancouver ages ago and forgot all about it.
Then this record came out and i didn't even download it.
These were both giant mistakes.
To describe the sound of this band I would say these guys are like a cross between the wild vocals of MeWithoutYou, the mad guitars of the Fall of Troy and the sheer oddity of the Blood Brothers. It's just a fucking great record.

sounds like: MeWithoutYou, the Fall of Troy, Touche Amore

If I say Math-Rock in reference to this band, I'm gonna have 30 people up my ass about how everything this band did someone else did already (At the Drive In, The Mars Volta). And to those people i would like to say go ahead and fuck yourself. I don't give one good god damn because yes, these guys play some melodic fast guitar riffs that tear peoples eyes out and sure they have a vocalist who's not afraid to use every sound found in the human thorax. But I'm pretty sure ATDI, and TMV didn't drop a fucking patent on the ability to make great music so this band is in the clear. All that name calling aside, some serious grandiose in your face musicianship with this band and a drummer that flat out rapes face. Just try Delay the Fiasco on for size, one bad ass song. The AlbumWe Impend is a gem of it's own.

sounds like: Tera Melos, The Fall of Troy, The Unicorns (and yes) the Mars Volta, At the Drive-In

First of all, when i saw this band in hs all i could think was, there is no way three guys are making this much noise. Secondly, Tom is a guitar god. Third... there was no third.

WARNING: this record is loud and fast, and if you're a giant vagina you probably can't handle screaming... or talent... so put in a new tampon, skip this blog and keep downloading the Jonas Brother's 3D Concert.

sounds like: Hot Cross, Circus Circus, Coney Island Pilot

You can snub your nose at this all you want, god knows i did until i actually listened to it. I like it, and i used to like the band until they put out Bone Palace Ballet. Which in my opinion is a heaping pile of shit, also somewhere during listening to that album i realized when Craig whispers he sounds like Herbert from Family Guy. So.... their you go, listen to this album.

sounds like: A Static Lullaby, The Fall of Troy, Hot Cross, *newer Dance Gavin Dance
